For a long time, my only driving force was making as much money as possible. I believed that any time spent outside of work was wasted.
Then one day, I came across the farewell video of a YouTuber who had helped me start my journey as an entrepreneur. This guy had lived and breathed work, and his main goal had been accumulating money. Yet in that video, he said: “Once my finances are secure, what’s the point of earning more money than I’ll ever spend?” Today, he spends his time with his family, reading, working out, and writing novels.
From the moment I started my entrepreneurial journey, everyone around me told me I should earn more, more, more. I never questioned it. I assumed it was simply what being an entrepreneur meant, so I went along with it. But what’s the point of dying rich if you haven’t truly lived? As kids, we might say we want to be rich one day, but only so we can keep playing and enjoying life, not to accumulate more.
So I set myself a goal: to earn enough to secure my family’s future and mine, then retire from this race.
Along the way, I want to become a calmer person, at peace with myself and with what I can't control. That is what the name of this blog, Khon Jai Yen, means in Thai: “calm person.”
This blog follows my journey toward these goals, along with the experiences, doubts, and lessons I learn.
I hope my writing will be useful to you, or at the very least give you something to think about regarding your own relationship with work, money, and inner peace.
